Chapter

Nineteen

“Afternoon, class, I’m Will Decker. I’ll be your shooting range instructor for the day.”

“Very funny,” Sky said, crossing her arms as she stood in front of a table of guns. She was Will’s only pupil, because she was the only one of the group who didn’t know how to use a weapon. A gun, she corrected herself.

With a huff, she added, “I’m going to use a bow and arrow. I don’t see why I need to know how to use a gun.”

Her sisters had insisted on the training, but Sky hated the loud weapons with their obnoxious smell.

Will nodded. “Your bow is amazing, don’t get me wrong. And maybe that’s all you’ll end up needing. But hear me out about guns, because at some point in the battle, you may want to pick one up and use it.” Before she could protest, he added, “Let’s say you’re knocked on your butt, crawling in the dirt, with a Dark Elf bearing down on you, and you don’t have enough space to do the whole bow and arrow maneuver? What if your left arm is broken? So while you’re shuffling in the dirt with your left arm broken, you notice the corpse of a Frost Giant beside you has a gun you can take. Good thing for you, your dashing brother-in-law taught you how to shoot.”

She narrowed her eyes at him but didn’t argue.

He gave her a broad smile and rubbed his hands together. “Let’s get started, class. Raine and I like Glocks. This is a 19 and this a 17. The 19 is slightly smaller with about a half inch shorter barrel. Standard magazine capacity for the 17 is 17 and 15 for the 19.”

“The bigger number is a smaller gun?”

“Yes. In fact, there’s a Glock 26, which is even smaller.”

She put her hands on her hips. “But with bullet caliber, bigger is actually bigger.”

Will shrugged. “I didn’t design them. I just use them. These are semi-automatic, meaning it self-loads a bullet into the chamber—ready for the next time you pull the trigger.”

Sky looked at the guns and then at the target. Will had placed it only fifty feet away.

He continued, “We’ll try out the Glocks as well as Storm’s P320 Compact. It’s lightweight and holds twenty-one 9mm rounds.”

She slipped on the earmuffs and picked up a gun, disliking the hard, cold feel of it. “Okay. Let’s do this.”
